Position Overview: NCLD is currently looking to add capacity to a growing Development team. We are seeking a detail-oriented, creative donor relations officer to develop, implement, and track the organization’s communications with prospective and active donors. Reporting to the senior director of strategic growth, the donor relations officer will directly manage a portfolio of mid-level donors while providing strategic, behind-the-scenes facilitation of NCLD’s moves management process with all donors. A highly skilled communicator with an aptitude for relationship building, the officer will serve as an important ambassador for NCLD and facilitate the development of long-term engagement with our donor audiences.

Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Management
  • Manage a portfolio of donors at the $500 to $10,000 level, with the expectation of continually moving new donors to this level.
  • Create and/or maintain high-touch relationships with donors through a variety of communication channels, focused on increasing their engagement with NCLD
  • Work closely with Director of Major Gifts to advance current and new donors to the major donor level ($10K+)
  • Orchestrate donor campaigns to attract and advance donor giving. Integrate campaigns with other development efforts in digital fundraising, major gifts, and corporate partnerships.
 
 
Cultivation and Stewardship Facilitation
  • In addition to the stewardship of donors in his/her portfolio, the officer will oversee NCLD’s structured moves management framework intended for the strategic cultivation and stewardship of all donors.
Track all “moves” in NCLD’s donor database; set follow-up actions as appropriate; and flag individuals in need of next steps.
  • With the Senior Director of Strategic Growth, identify and prioritize prospects for research and with determine tailored cultivation strategy
  • Support the planning, execution, and follow-up with donor-centric events, including pre-event relationship preparation and post event follow up
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, staying informed on program developments and impact updates and advising colleagues with regards to donor events or communications that reach donor audiences.
Other Duties
  • Oversee employee giving accounts and related communications, and develop materials to attract, steward, and grow this donor audience, in partnership with the Senior Corporate Partnership Officer.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, best practices, and innovative approaches, and make recommendations as appropriate
 
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of experience in nonprofit development; Knowledge of donor cultivation and stewardship best practices and moves management strategies.
  • Strong relationship building skills. Ability to secure the confidence of donors and prospects through long-term relationship building activities.
  • Experience with donor database (Salesforce a plus)
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize work and adjust to multiple demands. Demonstrated ability to follow tasks through to completion in a timely manner.
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to lead projects from concept through execution with teams, with overlapping timelines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with individuals and cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to teamwork.
  • Strong work ethic and high standards for personal and professional excellence.
  • Acute attention to detail, and dedication to quality assurance and follow-through.
  • Sense of humor.
  • Passion and commitment to NCLD’s mission. Prior knowledge of learning and attention issues is not required, but a willingness to learn is essential.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, as needed.
